Cacophony

Blissful silence,
interrupted…

birdsong
announces dawn
teakettle whistles
barking bristles
children grumbling
engine rumbling
brakes screeching
horns beeping
music booming
traffic zooming
voices whisper… build…crescendo
multi-phone lines ring in tempo
footsteps clatter
workers chatter
hours on end…
home again
pans clang, dishes rattle
conversation, or just prattle?
TV volumes ebb and flow
between commercial and the show--
Overwhelms…offends our senses
as each single day commences

At last, only breathing heard,
all have spoken final word...

  "goodnight"
