I watch another year come and go
the final embers glow
as it burns down and snuffs out,
joining all the others
in a pile of spent ash.
The promise of a bright, clear tomorrow
still as elusive as smoke on the wind.

ReplyDeleteYou captured the essence of a year ending, a new year beginning .. hoping for a good one.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
Brilliant top to bottom.
ReplyDelete...and we gather the memories from the ashes, put it in our travel pockets and give the new year smoke room to unfold...happy new year ginny
ReplyDeleteGinny,
ReplyDeleteOur poems share a phrase this week! This is a fitting valedictory to what must surely be a problematic year for many. Let's hope the smoke clears and that tomorrow comes happily to all. Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteI loved the circularity of this--and really a beautifully crafted piece Ginny--Happy New Year to you!
ReplyDeleteyes, I mus agree, it does indeed appear elusive...
ReplyDeleteah, beautifully put, an elusiveness I think many of us are feeling
ReplyDeleteWe do seem to be stuck in hiatus - let's fan the flames of hope
ReplyDeleteI think we all feel this, or think this at the turn of the year...makes us reflect upon what has passed that we didnt expect, and what we can expect, or the things we wont expect to see in the new one...its easy to get dragged don by 'what if's'...but you cant let them...WE cant let them
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your bright, clear tomorrow. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it does seem like that bright clear day will never come, no matter the time of year. Best we can do is try to get there, no matter the crap that comes due at our lair.
ReplyDeleteHow apt, at the end of an other year! Well done.
ReplyDeleteHope this year's not so elusive...Happy New Year!
