Social Distancing

Today the sky’s a perfect hue
no clouds to chase the sun away
as nature paints in shades of blue
erasing storm from yesterday

Yet filled with turmoil from within
and no firm words to quell our doubt
a madness seeks to underpin
and threaten those we know and love.

We have no map to guide this quest
so cast our hope to Providence,
will we all withstand the test
when future judges our response?

The sun shines bright on this spring morn
the outline of still naked trees
reach across the empty street,
cast dappled shadows on the lawn.
It’s funny how we never miss
the simple things until their gone.
