Broken Umbrella

Under broken umbrella I huddle,
poor shelter from this bitter storm…

Acid words rain
scouring raw emotions,
eroding, undermining
until all that remains
are underpinnings
and floating debris
of the once
solid pier
that was
‘us’

Sadness and anger
hammer barrier walls
Berms of resolve dissolve,
grain
by
grain.

Pain floods in;
salt stings my face
as nothing remains
intact in the wake
of our
personal
hurricane.

  1. Wow! Powerful! "floating debris of the once solid pier that was us" Both of my girls are going through divorce now. Your words speak the pain they are going through.

  2. Wow very intense piece, when the umbrella breaks it seems to break good and lets everything come crashing down.

  4. You picked great imagery to portray the inner message. It's an emotional piece that avoids being trite. The ancient story made new again. An enjoyable read.

  5. Beautiful read. As I am going through this hurricane myself, I can say that if it wasn't for poetry, I wouldn't have been able to withstand the violent winds and storm surges. Thanks for the power of your words.

  6. Yes, it is always the hurricane within that brings the deepest damage.

Awesome choices of words in this. I like berm. Always liked that word!

  9. Clever. Topical. And rounded off with a brilliant image.

  10. The 'erosion' is in the words and the form.

The hurt is everywhere. Your piece put it there.

So much feeling so poignantly expressed, so well done.

    Cheers

    (I wish you happier times.)
