Waiting on Spring

Photo: G. Brannan, January 2014
Almost imperceptibly
   the days stretch longer

impatiently, we wait

anticipating first warm day
   breeze softly stirring,

birds flitting, gathering food
   for insatiable babies
     chipping nearby.

You summon me—
  I answer, book in hand…

longing to get lost
  in your peaceful sway
    once again.

*Two pictures taken out my back windows, looking at my quiet spot, my "sanctuary." FYI: Top one was taken recently, but not today. Warmer temps and rain have taken all our snow away, at least for now!!

  4. what a beautiful bench swing... i can imagine how wonderful it must be to sit there with a book and get lost a bit... very cool... my daughter brought a hammock back from bolivia and sometimes we lie there until late in the night in summer

  5. Yes, how I miss the joy of reading outdoors in spring...there is melancholy in this poem yet it has also a sense of hopefulness, very nice.

  6. All we can do is wait, I think....knowing that the warm weather will arrive again. There definitely is JOY in reading outside though. Hard to believe, this time of year, that it will be possible.

  7. Waiting .. what a great place to sit and read... mmm... snow covered it looks much softer... but I reckon it would be cold.

  8. I'd love to snuggle up on that swing with a good book...when the weather gets warm. I like the anticipation in this poem. It seems like that mood emerges once the holidays have gone by.

  11. Like the deck swing we have, everything from a nap to a chapter is always a pleasure; since it is under cover now, we use it in winter too. Love all the cats in your Spring image. Our cat jumps up & down on ours and enjoys the ride.
