Charleston farmhouse door. |
This door was locked so long ago…
Can remember when it swung wide…
infused with youthful freedom,
we chased our whims with wild abandon.
Childhood dreams and fancies
are now sealed tight;
unused,
forgotten; hidden from our sight
And I…
I still search for the key.

And I.... search with you. This is awesome.
ReplyDeleteSuch magical words! I, too, still search for, and sometimes find, that elusive key.
ReplyDeleteI think life is just one long search party. Sometimes we tire of the hunt. Sometimes we lose the trail. But we should never stop trying to find that elusive "It." And what we do as writers/poets, beautifully expressed here, is map that progress. Stark and heartfelt, Gin. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, to open that door and return to our childhood....nice job.
ReplyDeleteand that door is called adulthood...and its completely a figment of our imaginations that we let control us...you already have the key...smiles.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent metaphor for the best part of childhood that we often lose access to somewhere along the way. Here's hoping you find that key!
ReplyDeleteGinny, this is beautiful and I hope you find the key. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd aren't we somehow all still serching? Beautifully crafted.
ReplyDeleteInventive and quite wise.
ReplyDeleteThere's a touch of sadness here, but I think many of us are searching for the key, too. Maybe it's within us...
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling you use that key often. I think most poets do. But it makes a great poem and companion to this image which I am still trying to figure out! I think the Mags are getting harder!
ReplyDeleteChildhood holds the key to many things...I loved your wistful poem.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find that key, beautiful introspective poem
