Invisible, unseen—
each cut to the bone,
each sin unatoned.
Faded, yet never
gone…
hunting us… haunting us
surfacing like a stain
even when clouds disappear
and days render
clear.
Still, what is to be gained
by complaining?
Each is dealt a specific hand
—if you are still in the game
then you’re already winning.

Sharing at with Hedgewitch over at Verse Escape for Friday 55.
Yes, complaining changes nothing, except your mood and the mood of those around you(for the worse.) My husband often says, when a difficulty of getting old, etc, is mentioned 'Beats the alternative.' Great to see you at the 55, Ginny. Thanks for playing, and have a kickass weekend, like the G-man would want us to do.
ReplyDeleteMy husband thinks like yours. One of his favorite quotes is from the movie Papillon: "Hey, you bastards, I'm still HERE!" Sometimes we need to remind ourselves. Thanks for letting me 'play!' And back atcha for that 'kick-ass weekend!!'
DeleteI guess you're right. There's a lot to be said for being on the "right side of the turf" as my dad used to say. I'm glad I had a hand in helping you find the Friday 55 too! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, complaining is a monster I find on my tongue too often these days. I guess I am too comfortable with feeding it. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, complaining seems to solve little, if anything. And the bones still grow older whichever path we choose, whatever hand we play.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm still winning... hopefully for a few more decades...

The last stanza made me squeal a few, Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! for that's what I tell myself every single day. Winning is nice, but we haven't lost while we are still playing.
ReplyDeleteI learned that once that you will always loose, winning is to be able to stay in the game as long as you can.
ReplyDeleteI like your play on words - not easy to keep it so tight in so few words, also love how this phrase sounds: 'surfacing like a stain'...
