In Stasis

Image: Alex Stoddard, courtesy of The Mag

Held captive in a man-made womb
composed of glass and wooden stave,
adrift inside this watery grave
while oak and hemlock guard my tomb.

I rest on decomposing bed
of rotting life and fictile earth;
awaiting on some grand re-birth
I float in stasis state instead.

  1. I often wonder if those rich folks like Howard Huges/ Disney (I thin to) whp paid a fortune to have their brains and bodies preserved in suspended animation until some time in the future can still 'think'. Imagine being frozen like that and yet, still able to think. Would drive me crazy. Sorry for typos, burned my fingers yesterday, hard to type.

    1. More like don't waste time and let your life rot away while waiting for life to come to you!

  4. I'm so impressed with your use of this form (enclosed or envelope rhyme, is it?). The poem is so effective, especially when mirrored by the form, and combined with the perfect title.

  8. Reminds me of a frog in formeldahyde. Yes, rebirth is what many hope for...but I don't wish to be suspended in water beforehand! You did well with this picture. I agree with the person above who said it is one of the best for this prticular prompt.

  9. Let's hope when awakened he finds it isn't still rotting down around him. Great word picks, really set the stage and were all the rage.

  11. The image and your verse bring to mind a cross between the Snow White story and a magician undertaking an underwater prison illusion. Well wrought.
