Nutters

These hunter-gatherers appear
to resupply their winter hoard,
with focus fixed, they show no fear.
These hunter-gatherers appear
their yearly rite becoming clear--
collecting food for caches stored.
These hunter-gatherers appear
in deadly race for winter hoard.

For the past three weeks or so, these little "Nutters" have come out of the woodwork and are everywhere (mostly in the middle of roads), gathering their winter stores. Wondering if a "sign" for a long, cold winter to come?

  2. Such fun with this one, Poet! A fantastic triolet..a favorite form for me, so a double applause! I've near toasted by breakpads trying to avoid the scurrying little beasts here as well.

  6. I saw several little guys scurrying around on my walk today. Now, I'm picturing how they must have been preparing :) Very cute.

  9. Ginny,

You always make the forms so natural and organic. You have a real intuition for this, making the writing seem easy, effortless--though I know it's not. Excellent piece, in meter, rhyme and seasonal context. I much enjoyed!

  11. I like how you've altered the second refrain at the end, it lend the piece a lot of development for a triolet. Neat piece

  12. These nutters drive my dogs insane! They sit on the roof and chatter at the dogs below, taunting them from a safe perch. Many times, I've watched my Rhodesian Ridgeback attempt to climb the elm tree to reach the nutters.

Love the repetition here. It enhances and focuses the write. Well done.
